“The Cirqle always bring big, popular brands to the table, which is not usually the case on creator platforms. They also have a very intuitive interface that makes the process easy. Content approval is one of my favorite parts of The Cirqle. It is so easy to upload your content, it even comes with the hashtags & mentions preloaded in your caption. You never forget what to include!”
Meghan Laurie on traveling the world for a living:
How did you start blogging?
I started my Instagram/blogging journey 3 years ago. We were traveling quite a bit and I decided to try to take photos that really captured the beauty of each place we visited. I also started tagging all of the brands that I wore, along with my favorite products. These photos would get reposted and things just grew from there! Eventually, I had a wonderful, engaged following that allowed me to make this my full-time job.
When did you start traveling and why?
I started traveling right out of college and have slowly added more and more trips to the books. I have always been drawn to other cultures and traveling allowed me to be truly immersed in a culture much different than my own. I love learning about and connecting with people around the world.
You shoot amazing photos, what is your secret?
Thank you! It has taken a lot of practice. My husband and I worked together for years to figure out what we like best. My secret is a mix between shooting & editing. For shooting, we did a lot of research including how to manually shoot, as well as constantly looking at our ‘dream photos’. For editing, we created our own presets that we use on Lightroom to achieve a consistent look.
If you look back to all countries you've visited, which country would you highly recommend to visit?
Out of all of the countries so far, we would recommend Costa Rica! There is so much to do here. We went for a more adventurous trip and stayed near Arenal Volcano. We hiked for 8 hours, zip-lined, rappelled down a waterfall, it was the adventure of a lifetime.
Do you want to share any travel tips?
One of my biggest tips I share is to use the app Hopper when it comes to flights. This app helps predict what the lowest price will be and when to buy. I also recommend using the website Lonely Planet to plan your trip. It helps you figure out where you should go, what you should do, and what you need to be aware of in each city (safety/customs/etc.).
Why do you enjoy working with companies and how do you choose certain collaborations, any criteria?
I love to work with companies I truly believe in so that it ends up being a mutually beneficial relationship. If I am not supporting the company in the best way possible, I've failed. So when I choose to work with a company, I make sure that my audience will enjoy it and that I actually love what the company is offering.
Do you have any lessons from past failures others could learn from?
Don't focus on what everyone else is doing. There are a lot of bloggers out there that try to do it all. This can work for some people, but for most it will mean a big failure. Find one specific niche that you LOVE and become the expert in it. It will be hard to turn down the opportunity to work with every brand that comes along, but your consistency to your niche will lead to a larger, more dedicated following and working with your dream brands.
What social trends are you seeing unfold for 2019?
I am seeing a shift in what type of content works best with my audience. People like travel photos (with the scenery) and they like seeing more videos than ever before. I am also noticing that Instagram stories are becoming less popular with viewers because of the over-saturation and difficulty to access everyone's stories.
